Elastic Transfer Film

Is this a new product? Yes It Is. Transfer products have been available since the nineteenth century. These were mainly liquids of various kinds, and several transfer liquids are still available in the market. The Intermediated Carrier for Transfer of Printed Picture received a US patent in 1968. It was one of the very first transfer sheets ever. At that time, two sheets were requiered for a transfer. The A-sheet lifted the picture from the magazine page and the B-sheet made it stick to the substrate. The transfer process consisted of 12 steps. The Lift-a-Picture Elastic Transfer Film, ETF, 2004 version, is a development of the A-sheet, and it is a completely new product. A transfer with the ETF can be made in only 3 steps, (5 - 6 if the sub steps are counted). The need for a B-sheet has been completely eliminated for iron-on transfers. While there are literally thousands of transfer sheets availablein the market today, The ETF sheets are the only ones that transfer prints, such as magazine and newspaper pictures, and of which the transferred image adapts the texture of the substrate.

How does theElastic Transfer Film, ETF, Work ?

When the EFT is applied over an image, the adhesive will absorb the thin layer of inks, toners or paint that forms the image. After a period of submersion in water, the bond between the image and its paper backing will loosen. When saturated, the paper backing is peeled off. The decal has been completed.
When the decal is positioned over an iron-able sbstrate, such as fabric, and pressed with a hot iron, the adhesive will migrate downwards, through the decal surface, into the substrate, providing the image with a firm hold. During the initial 20 seconds of the pressing, the decal is covered with a wet press cloth. The steam created releases the decal support paper from the decal plastic film. The support paper paper may then be peeled off. On non-iron-able substrates, the decal is pasted to the substrate. When the adhesive has dried, a wet cloth is placed over the support paper. When saturated, the support paper may be peeled off.
